300 Picture Book Challenge#4

A couple of bumper trips to the library gave our efforts a bit of a boost this week. While Little Miss would probably be quite happy to read the same things over and over again, taking part in the 300 Picture Book Challenge has made our reading life a lot more interesting for me! I’m sure the added variety will be great for her in the long run too.

Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve read this week… there were 20 new titles in total, taking our progress so far to 89 books.

Our top three reads this week have been:

Happy! (A Little Zeb Book) Happy! book

I had to pick this when I spotted it in the library, ‘appy’ is something Little Miss has been saying a lot lately (see my latest Word of the Week post). It’s a lovely, brightly illustrated story about a baby zebra who finds a joyful new playmate.

Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy
Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy book

Billed as a ‘classic’, I’ve been keen to find out what this was all about for a while now. The simple, rhyming story sees Hairy Maclary head out for a walk, joined by doggy friends of all shapes and sizes. Little Miss greeted it with much excitement. She loved looking at the different doggies and saying ‘woof, woof!’ We both found it very entertaining and Little Miss insisted on taking it up to bed with her for her afternoon nap – a sure sign of approval.

The Mouse and the Apple The Mouse and the Apple book

I loved the message behind this story… that good things come to those who wait. It features lots of animals, nice bright pictures and a very patient little mouse. Hopefully Little Miss will follow his lead!

I’d love to hear what you’ve been reading this week.

  1. This is so cool, are you going to the library for these or are you building your own? (300 would definitely be considered library status!!)

    • No, a lot of them are from the library now. Started out with the ones we had at home. I love buying books but unfortunately we don’t have the space or the spare money for me to be too indulgent!

  2. Loads of fab books there! Boo really liked those Zoe & Beans books went we went to the library last, so I’ll keep an eye out for more..

  3. Owl Babies is a favourite of ours and we love Hairy McClary too. We’ve read quite a few Mr Men books this week.

    • Ah, we’ll have to get hold of some Mr Men books. I used to love those as a child, especially Mr Chatterbox and Mr Tickle! Will definitely look out for more Hairy Maclary too.

  4. Mog the Forgetful Cat is one of my all-time favourites. A lovely selection of books. Thank-you for linking up.

    • Thanks. Much less variety on the new books front this week as we’re still enjoying last week’s so much. But did get a new haul at library today.
